What It Does
Humanin is a small peptide encoded within the mitochondrial genome (16S rRNA region), making it one of a class called mitochondrial-derived peptides (MDPs). It is cytoprotective across multiple tissues — brain, heart, vasculature, and metabolic organs. Humanin levels decline with age and are inversely correlated with Alzheimer's disease risk and metabolic dysfunction.
